Back-to-school costs up by 13 per cent
BIG W survey highlights increasing cost of education.
BIG W’s annual Back-To-School Report reveals it’s getting more expensive to send children back to school, with parents spending an average of $538 per child – up 13 per cent over 2021.
According to the report, the most important factors when shopping for back-to-school are:
- Affordability
- Quality
- One-stop shop
The research shows that early shoppers spend less while two-thirds of parents (65 per cent) say they overspend on back-to-school supplies by buying non-essential items when accompanied by their children on shopping expeditions.
Three-quarters of parents factor back-to-school expenses into their budget, however the rise of BYOD is pushing expenses higher and higher, particularly for multi-student households.
