Back-to-school costs on the rise
Parents spending up more on tech products.
According to Big W’s annual back-to-school report, Australian families are about to fork out an average of $592 per child on back-to-school costs for 2021.
That's an increase of 10 per cent on 2020, a figure which has increased again after a rise of 13 per cent from 2019.
The report, conducted by YouGov, also revealed that technology played a large role in the increase this year with parents spending an average of $284 on tech products.
Expected average costs for back-to-school items include:
- School uniforms - $180
- School shoes - $111
- Stationery - $92
- School bags - $58
- Lunch boxes and water bottles - $43
- All other items - $108
- Year 7: stationery $105
- Year 6: stationery $50
- Year 1 stationery $40
