US retailer adds security product to schools supplies category.

 

While they have been around for some time, bulletproof backpacks are now being sold through Office Depot stores in the US.

 

Manufactured by a Florida-based company called Guard Dog Security, the the ProShield Scout model is claimed to protect a wearer against a .44 Magnum handgun.

 

The bags, designed for student’s everyday use, look like a regular backpack, complete with a laptop sleeve and organisational pockets.

 

“It’s no longer about reacting to some sort of tragedy or some sort of event. We’re seeing that parents are buying these backpacks when considering supplies for back- to-school,” a spokesperson for Guard Dog Security said.
