Canon reveals print security concerns

Companies spending up on digitalisation.

Seventy-eight per cent of organisations in Australia and New Zealand have experienced at least one print security incident in the past two years, according to a new report from Canon Oceania.

The Transforming Print and Document Management in Australia and New Zealand survey, found 49 per cent of ANZ organisations plan to increase their spending across their print and document environment cybersecurity in the next 12 months.

Survey highlights:
  • In a digital world, the digital document is lagging: Only 25 per cent of document workflows within corporate departments are currently digitised. Slow uptake means missing out on benefits like enhanced compliance, security and revenue growth – and early integration of AI-enabled solutions. Positively, the report uncovered a change in this trend, as over the next two years ANZ businesses are planning to increase the digitalisation of document workflows by up to 40 per cent.
  • Cloud printing is on the rise: Less than half of businesses in ANZ have adopted cloud printing across some or all their devices. However, knowing the opportunity around this, 52 per cent have plans to implement cloud-based printing within the next two years.
Canon said the findings highlight a significant opportunity to strengthen this critical area and ensure comprehensive data protection procedures are in place so that businesses are not inadvertently leaving themselves exposed through their print environments.
