Costco to open first store in New Zealand
Auckland outlet to open in 2022.
Bulk warehouse retailer will open its first store in New Zealand early next year with more outlets to follow.
The big box retailer, which announced it was coming to New Zealand in 2019, is spending more than NZ$100 million on the three-story store in Westgate, Auckland.
Costco stores typically stock about 3500 brands, but the retailer has not yet given any details about which Kiwi brands it will stock.
Costco Australia and New Zealand managing director Patrick Noone has said the company was also looking to open stores in Wellington and the South Island.
Costco launched the first of its 12 stores in Australia in 2009.
IGA launches ‘Supa Value’
Six new low-cost supermarkets are set to open across Sydney as Metcash launches its bulk-buy IGA ‘Supa Value’ store network in direct competition to Costco.
Existing ‘Supa Value’ stores in Doonside (western Sydney) and Ballina (NSW north coast) will be joined by stores in northern and southern areas of Sydney.
