Farm waste simply suitable for paper

Paper products made from 95 per cent agricultural waste are now available in Australia.

Founded by Mount Dandenong-based entrepreneur Mathieu Dechamps (pictured), Simply Paper gives agricultural waste a second life by converting leftover wheat and sugarcane from farm harvests into eco-friendly printing paper.

In a recent interview with the Mountain Views Star Mail, Dechamps said his frustration at being unable to source locally made paper after the closure of Opal Australian Paper’s Maryvale mill prompted him to investigate where paper comes from and how it is made.

“At the Learning Rangers Learning Centre in Olinda, where we work with children with dyslexia and other learning difficulties, I was responsible for buying all the paper and stationery, and that’s what made me look more closely at where paper comes from and how it’s made,” Dechamps said.

He said agricultural waste paper is already widely used in parts of Europe and Canada, and it stood out as a potential solution, particularly as Australia was not yet producing it at scale.

Simply Paper has begun expanding its sales network through commercial supply channels, including distribution via Dorset Business Solutions in Bayswater.
