Former Officeworks COO departs Bunnings

Phil Bishop packs up while on annual leave.

Phil Bishop (pictured), the former chief operating officer at Officeworks who moved to a senior role at Bunnings in 2019, has made a sudden exit from the hardware group.

In a letter to suppliers, parent company Wesfarmers managing director Michael Schneider said Bishop was on annual leave and "not be formally returning to the office".

Bishop initially joined Bunnings as general manager – merchandise but was later promoted to director – merchandise and marketing for Australia/New Zealand.

Bishop spent more than seven years at Officeworks, where he was regarded as the ‘manager for everything’, overseeing merchandise, store operations, marketing, supply chain, online, B2B and customer experience.

Between 2008 and 2011, Bishop was chief merchandise and marketing officer at OfficeMax Australia, now part of Winc Australia/New Zealand.

In his letter, Schneider added: “Since joining Bunnings almost two years ago, Phil has made a significant contribution to our merchandise, and more recently marketing teams. Phil has been instrumental in providing a clear and defined strategy for merchandise, including building the skills and processes needed for our team’s continued growth.

“We wish Phil all the very best with his future endeavours,” he said.
