Home office a priority for new home buyers
NAB survey highlights priorities for hybrid workforce.
A home office is one of the main priorities for Australians on the hunt for a new home, according to a new survey.
NAB research reflects shifting trends in factors that have become more important to property buyers, who are working from home regularly and less tied to CBD offices.
Most workers now demand their new home comes equipped with a study or work area, with this rated by 86 per cent of survey respondents as ‘moderately’ or ‘much more important’ compared to pre-pandemic times, while three in four prize their home being near good local amenities.
The uptake of remote work is here to stay with a recent global PwC survey of more than 32,500 workers revealing that 90 per cent of Australians want to keep working from home in some capacity.
In another survey, Qualtrics found that remote work had become a ‘make or break’ decision for Australian workers, with 51 per cent saying they would stay longer with their employer if work-from-home arrangements introduced during COVID became permanent.
Free public transport offer for CBD
Meantime, the NSW treasurer Dominic Perrottet has said he is “open” to making public transport free on Mondays and Fridays in order to tempt more people to go back to the CBD.
In his budget speech last November, the Treasurer described the Sydney CBD as “one of the biggest casualties of the pandemic”.
NSW Small Business Minister Damien Tudehope said commercial occupancy rates in Sydney had dipped from a pre-pandemic rate of about 90 per cent to around 50 per cent.
