The New Zealand arm of a trans-Tasman envelope supplier is expected to close due to increasing costs and competition.

 

The Auckland-based manufacturing business of Australasian stationery company Candida is proposed to be wound up after 50 years in operation – potentially impacting 57 positions.

 

In a statement to Stuff, director Raymond Goubitz said the company recently received notice that the owner of its Mairangi Bay, Auckland warehouse intended to sell the property where its operations are based.

 

"Many New Zealand businesses are grappling with increasing costs and challenging domestic and international economic headwinds – Candida is no different,” Goubitz said.

 

The major supplier of envelopes was founded in Auckland in 1976, according to its website, and employed close to 115 staff at branches across Australia and New Zealand.

 

Candida’s Australian operation, which has branches in Sydney and Melbourne, is not affected by the decision to close the New Zealand business.
