Marty Bate makes Mega move from ASA

Compact dealer group committed to growth in wake of recent resignations.

A second ASA Australia member – Mega Office Supplies – has resigned this month from the compact dealer group.

The resignation of Tweed heads-based Mega Thing Pty Ltd, an expanding online business owned and operated by Marty Bate, follows last week’s announcement that Melbourne-based ASA member Emergency Office Supplies had switched camps to Office Choice.

A third ASA member, Sydney-based GetYoo (previously known as Stationery Wholesalers) left the group following its sale in September to Dynamic Office National.

The resignations of Mega and EOS will take effect on 1 January, 2020.

In a letter to suppliers, ASA chairman Gordon Whittaker (Adelaide Direct Stationers) said: “ASA would like to reassure our valued supplier family that the group remains very strong with its current members, all of whom are commiotted to grow and work collaboratively together. The new and improved structure of the group will place us in good stead for the future and we look forward to demonstrating this with our future growth.”

ASA added that all benefits, including trading terms and rebated associated with the group’s membership, should cease by 31 December for both resigning members.

Earlier this year, ASA said it has received “overwhelming positive comments” from suppliers following its decision to strip out its support office and cease publication of an annual catalogue.

It said the decision to streamline operations gave members the flexibility to utilise suppliers’ marketing funds to achieve the best outcome for each individual business.

Remaining members of ASA are:

  • Impact Office Supplies (Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast)
  • Adelaide Direct Stationers (Adelaide)
  • Blue Ink Group (Canberra)
  • Office Trend/Sharp Electronics Group (Newcastle)
  • Bennetts Total Office Solutions (Blue Mountains)
