Nine suppliers appointed to new NZ office supplies contract

Government highlights reduced waste as a key requirement.

The New Zealand government has appointed nine suppliers for its newly-structured all-of-government (AoG) office supplies contract which comes into effect on 18 July.

The nine suppliers offer products covering stationery, cleaning, hygiene and washroom consumables, ICT consumables, educational supplies, health and safety products, and milk and milk alternatives:
  • Alsco NZ Limited
  • Burns & Ferrall
  • NXP Limited
  • NZ Safety Blackwoods
  • OfficeMax NZ Limited
  • Pacific Hygiene Limited
  • Play’n’Learn
  • Qizzle
  • The Warehouse Group (Warehouse Stationery)
The initial term for the NZ$52 million contract is three years, with two rights of renewal, each for two years.

A key requirement of the new contract is supplier support of the government’s campaign to reduce waste associated with office products.

Suppliers have committed to reducing the waste associated with their products by favouring recyclable and compostable materials, and supporting a shift to circular economy through product stewardship schemes.

The low waste key office supplies category makes up around 80 per cent of the most purchased products acquired through the solution and the aim is for all products within that category to be low-waste by 2025.

The new contract supports New Zealand businesses through the wider supply chain and features:
  • a  refreshed, consolidated product catalogue across seven categories, focusing on low-waste, sustainable products and delivering social and environmental outcomes
  • a wider range of suppliers providing more choice and competitive pricing
  • revised pricing from suppliers, lowering the total costs to participating agencies.
The NZ government has published a handbook called Reducing waste from office supplies.

OPD update

Office Products Depot, New Zealand's largest independent dealer group, is not currently listed on the AoG panel. Office Products News has been advised that the group will be meeting with NZ government authorities in coming weeks.
