Office products firms in gender pay gap spotlight
Difference in pay packets revealed for the first time.
The difference between what men and women are paid at the larger employers in Australia has been revealed for the first time, including major firms in the office products space.
Data divulged under new laws show significant gender pay gap differences at the likes of Winc Australia, ACCO Brands, Complete Office Supplies and Officeworks.
COS, with a medium base pay gender gap of -6.3% is the stand-out in terms of ‘gender equality’ with Winc Australia having a relatively high gender gap of 19.2 per cent.
As an example, the median gender pay gap at airline Jetstar is 53.5 per cent, meaning that for every $1 a male worker makes at the company, women earn, on average, 46.5 cents.
The base figure can change if all forms of remuneration, such as bonuses and penalties, are included.
Medium gender pay gap %
- Winc Australia 19.2 (base salary) 20.6 (total remuneration)
- COS -6.3 (base) -5.8 (total)
- ACCO Brands -6.3 (base) 8.8 (total)
- Canon Australia 0.9 (base) 4.2 (total)
- Officeworks 7.0 (base) 3.5 (total)
- 3M -4.2 (base) 1.8 (total)
Footnote: The gender pay gap at companies covering more than five million Australian workers was revealed for the first time by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency. In the UK the publication of this data made the gap smaller.
