Officeworks linked with 'high risk' Chinese security products
Security concerns over re-branded range.
Officeworks has reportedly signed a deal to range a Chinese security products brand that has been described as ‘high risk’ by the federal government.
According to a report in Channel News Australia, Officeworks has “got into bed” with Chinese security company Hikvision via its 100 per cent-owned consumer brand EZVIZ, which has been dropped by some of the world’s biggest retailers because of security concerns.
“According to sources, Officeworks, owned by Wesfarmers, has cut a deal to range the EZVIZ line of security cameras, which US-based retailers Best Buy, Amazon, Home Depot and Walmart have stripped from their shelves,” Channel News said.
According to the Channel News report, EZVIZ executives said their cameras will be ranged at Officeworks shortly. The EZVIZ brand is not among several security camera brands currently featured on the Officeworks website.
Chinese-made surveillance cameras and intercom systems manufactured by EZVIZ parent company Hikvision were ordered to be removed from the offices of federal politicians over security concerns.
Channel News said it was waiting for a reply from Officeworks management.
