Opal parent announces price hike in Japan

The reason: Fuel prices, supply chain issues and world affairs.

Nippon Paper Industries, parent company of Opal Australian Paper, has announced a price increase for office paper in the Japanese domestic market.

A “price revision” for printing and business communication paper is a minimum of 15 per cent and will apply for products shipped from 1 August.

In a statement, company president Toru Nozawa said: “Ever since the price revision was announced in November 2021, fuel prices and logistic costs have continued to rise rapidly given the dramatic changes in world affairs, and the yen's sharp depreciation has worsened the situation. Despite continuous cost cutting and other measures taken by the company, it has not been able to fully offset the cost increases, and so has decided to revise the product prices once again.”

Last month, Opal Australia’s ’s paper division announced the implementation of a nine per cent surcharge on orders for copy and printing paper, envelopes and stationery, effective 1 June.
