Pilot Pen issues warning on fake Facebook accounts

Customers urged to check validity of social media connections.

Pilot Pen has issued a public warning about multiple fake accounts that have been created to represent Pilot Pen Australia on Facebook and Instagram, with no relation to the company.

In a statement on its Facebook page, Pilot Pen said: “If you are approached by the accounts below or any account claiming to be a representative, please refrain from providing any personal information and send us a message.”

The company also posted tips on how to tell if a social media account for a company is fake:

Facebook
1. Different name in URL and profile.
2. Lack of information: very little detail in the bio and little to no photos.
3. Ask you to click through to any questionable links or provide any credit card details to claim a prize.

Instagram
1. Private account.
2. Immediately send you a reply or DM asking for personal details or click-through to a link that looks suspicious.

“This is counter-intuitive as companies like Pilot Pen Australia want to reach everyone with our posts and be as transparent as possible,” the company said.

“We again hope you all remain safe - please do not hesitate to message us if you are approached and thank you for your on-going support.

“Our community is very important to us and we want to make sure you're not placed in any uncomfortable situations,” the company said.
