Canon puts MegaTank into the Pixma picture
Rebranding capitalises on WFH trend.
The highly-competitive printer ink market has moved up a gear as major players look to innovative solutions to take advantage of work-from-home trends.
Canon’s Australia has rebranded some of its printers as it looks to tap into the growing popularity of ink tank printers with Pixma Endurance CISS models given a new name – Pixma MegaTank.
According to Canon, consumers are looking for long-term home office printing solutions that support their print needs without causing business downtime or driving up personal overheads.
Canon overall demand for home printers last year increased by around 40 per cent, with the CISS range growing by 159 per cent. This made CISS the fastest-growing segment in Canon’s consumer print category.
Brendan Maher, senior product manager at Canon Australia, said the spike in home printer sales can be attributed to many families and professionals purchasing office supplies to function from home during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“2020 saw a resurgence in the value of home printers across the nation as Australians embraced working, learning, and creating from home. A year later, home offices are no longer considered temporary fixtures in the business landscape, and families and professionals are realising they need more reliable technology products than the stop-gap solutions they purchased last year to simply get through,” Maher said.
Canon claims its MegaTank printers can reduce ink costs by up to 95 per cent, depending on the print tasks involved.
