Officeworks finds a problem with AirTag

Trendy tech item a possible safety concern for children.

Officeworks has reportedly removed the Apple AirTag range from its shelves citing safety concerns.

An Officeworks representative is quoted as saying the AirTags were removed due to concerns over how easy it is for the button-cell battery to be removed by a child.

“AirTag is designed to meet international child safety standards, including those in Australia, by requiring a two step push-and-turn mechanism to access the user-replaceable battery,” an Apple representative said in an email to Gizmodo Australia.

AirTags, which enable users to track personal items via an app, are still available to purchase from Apple online as well as other retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and Big W.

New fintech product offered by Officeworks

Meantime, a start-up financial technical company has launched a new tailored banking solution for SMEs in partnership with retailer Officeworks.

The Zeller business banking product comprises a next-generation EFTPOS terminal, a free business transaction account, and a business Mastercard included in the ready-to-go package.

According to co-founder Ben Pfisterer, the launch of Zeller comes at an opportune time for the fintech, with many businesses looking for a “simple alternative to what the Big Four are offering”.

Pfisterer says the simplicity of Zeller is what Australian SMEs are looking for.

"It's about having their whole business financial services in a box, We wanted to build something which every Australian business could use," he said.
