Home workers paying their way out of the office
Employees who work from home are paying for the privilege, according to a new survey.
A survey commissioned by Officeworks, carried out to support the launch of the retailer’s online Flexiworks WFH product service, found that nearly two-thirds of employees were using items they already owned for their home offices.
The survey also found:
- Half of employers surveyed reported that some of their staff needed to purchase items themselves without being reimbursed.
- 28 per cent of employers said their organisations provided ergonomic assessments of employees’ home set-ups.
- 43 per cent of employees brought items from the office to use at home.
- 38 per cent of employees said their employer made at least some financial contribution to their WFH set-up.
- Around a third of employers said they had budgeted A$500 (US$380) or more per employee for WFH equipment needs. 18 per cent indicated not having a budget at all for this.
- Nearly 80 per cent of employers believe they have provided enough or more than enough support for employees working from home.
The survey was carried out in December last year among 1000 employees and 504 employers.
