Office Brands prepares for Opal Paper price hike
Opal product will no longer be supplied free into store.
Office Brands has advised its members that Opal Australian Paper has proposed a 20 per cent plus price increase for 2023.
In a communique to members, Office Brands said: “This negotiation will likely be protracted as there are some major changes being presented to us by Opal that will have significant impact on the independent channel and our customers. It is important to know that the following has not been finalised, but we feel that by providing you with the initial intentions of Opal for these major changes, members will be able to start to prepare for them.
“The most significant change proposed is that Opal product will no longer be supplied free into store. It has been proposed that the cost of freight will be charged at cost for each member. Furthermore, the starting price has initially been proposed to be an increase of 20%+ effective for the 2023 new contract for the copy paper pricing.”
There has also been major changes proposed to Office Brands’ rebate program with the removal of the category rebate program to a flat percentage across all products.
