GNS appoints new head of merchandising

Wholesaler recruits former Office Choice exec.
 
David Williamson, former national merchandising manager at dealer group Office Choice (pictured), has joined GNS Wholesale as head of merchandise and marketing, effective 19 August.
 
Williamson was previously with Office Choice for more than five years and drove the dealer group’s  category expansion, data-driven range enhancement, improved private label ranging and development and implementation of systems and processes.
 
Williamson will be based at GNS’s Keysborough site in Melbourne and will report directly to GNS CEO Paul Yardley.
 
“I’m delighted to announce the further strengthening of our senior team with David’s appointment,” Yardley told Office Products News.
 
 “Enhancing our capability in merchandise and marketing and collaborating even more closely with suppliers is a critical part of delivering the commercial upside from a wholesale model as our industry continues to evolve.,” he said.
 
“David’s breadth of experience and knowledge of our channel will add significant value, and I’m very excited to be working with him over the years ahead as we continue to drive the evolution of GNS.
 
“David’s appointment underscores the critical role that strong and mutually beneficial partnerships with brand owners and manufacturers, both locally and offshore, play in GNS’s ongoing strategy,” Yardley added.
 
Before joining Office Choice, Williamson led the merchandise, marketing and e-commerce teams at Peter Stevens Group, the largest retailer of motorcycles and accessories in Australia. 
 
Prior to that, he managed the beer category at Dan Murphy’s, overseeing an annual turnover exceeding one billion dollars annually. 
 
Williamson also has previous experience in the business supplies industry, having worked for Paper Plus Group and Warehouse Stationery in New Zealand earlier in his career.
