Brother launches remanufactured inkjet service
Brother says it is the first print OEM in Europe to remanufacture its inkjet cartridges.
The company has launched a new inkjet cartridge remanufacturing line at its Recycling Technology Centre in the Welsh town of Wrexham.
It expects to remanufacture over two million inkjet cartridges a year once the line is fully operational. Brother’s investment in this new service is set to create 20 new jobs to add to its 185-strong workforce at the facility.
Business and home users in 30 European countries can return used ink cartridges free of charge to Brother. In fact, they have been encouraged to do so for the past year in order for the OEM to build up a stock of empties.
All consumables received are inspected, taken apart, cleaned and put together again, including any new parts required. The cartridges are then refilled with Brother original ink. Brother says there is full traceability of parts so it can track how many times a cartridge has been remanufactured.
Lexmark for sale?
Bloomberg has reported that Lexmark’s owners are looking into a sale of the print OEM.
Lexmark was acquired by a consortium headed by Ninestar (then called Apex) at the end of 2016 in a US$3.6 billion deal.
According to Bloomberg, a sale of the business today could fetch between US$1.8-US$2 billion.
