Bolton’s Bendigo on the move after 140 years

New era for Australia’s longest-standing office products dealer.
Bolton’s Bendigo, Australia’s longest-standing office products and services company, is moving to new premises next year with plans to expand its already expansive business supplies offering.
With its building on Williamson Street set to become a multi-storey, 220-bed student accommodation building for La Trobe University students, Bolton's is moving to a new purpose-built facility at 87 Charleston Road, where it will expand into packaging and cleaning supplies.
Both retail and wholesale operations will be housed under one roof in Bendigo, which will support the company’s other outlet in Ballarat.
Interestingly, the current Bendigo store is opposite Officeworks while the Ballarat store is next door to an Officeworks outlet.
Rod McCredden, general manager and director of Bolton’s told Office Products News that the expansion into packaging and cleaning supplies was partly prompted by a decline in corporate supplies and workwear as a result of Covid and the work-from-home trend.
Established in 1885, Bolton’s celebrated its 140th anniversary last month.
With six generations of Bolton family ownership, the company, a member of Office National, continues to evolve under the locally familiar name Bolton’s.
Originally founded as Bolton & Sons by Benjamin Bolton and his two eldest sons, William and Arthur, the company’s roots in Bendigo date back to its first location on High Street, later moving to Mitchell Street, where it remained for more than 100 years.
